What is the problem?

Only 2% of primary schools have libraries. This means that over 20,000 primary schools have no libraries hence the pupils have no access to reading materials. Lack of storybooks to read has a negative impact on children’s literacy, confidence and performance in examinations.

All children should be offered an equal opportunity to be able to read and grow their imagination.

How can you get involved?

Books have a profound impact on children. Reading for leisure not only helps a child get high academic grades but also helps them to improve their ability to express themselves. With few public primary schools equipped with libraries, reading for leisure among children from the poorest families is severely handicapped. By donating to the Start a Library initiative, you can help raise resources to equip schools with libraries across the country.

How can I help?

We have already donated thousands of books to schools in various counties but more are needed. Donate today on this website or directly to the Mpesa Paybill number 202211.
